John Faulds Scholarship

The scholarship is named after the late John Faulds, who was taken from us at an early age. He was Vice President of Ranger Oil Ltd. and had the responsibility for shareholder relations and risk management functions for many years. He was an avid supporter of risk management education, and a number of companies had donated funds to establish a scholarship in his name through the Foundation. The scholarship is for $5000 and is periodically awarded to students in graduate programs that meet the qualifying conditions.

Class of 2016


Aurélie Poisson is a student in the Master’s program in Finance at University Laval. She also works for La Capitale Assurances Générales and this has helped her realize how insurance companies face multiple risks financial and others and the challenges this type of business faces. This is a motivational factor for her. Her career goal is to work in finance and risk management; first and foremost, she aspires to evolve in a setting where she will have the opportunity to learn and face challenges to overcome. She is pursuing the CFA designation and will participate in the CFA Toronto Ethics Challenge.

Hao Lu Ph.D. is a 2nd year PhD student at the University of Calgary. Hao has worked as an underwriter for TD Insurance in Personal Lines and Property & Casualty for 5 years. He won an award from the Insurance Institute for Outstanding Academic Performance and the Kendra Monck Memorial Award, for the most deserving graduate upon completion of the CIP program and the Peter Rogers Award for the most deserving graduate for a broker or agent program. He also won several awards at Zhengzhou University. His research lies in studying ERM and its relationship with corporate social responsibility. Hao’s goal is to provide guidance to Risk Manager’s in choosing the right level of integrated risk management.

Andreea Brezeanu graduated from Wilfred Laurier University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Financial Management (Hons) and is enrolled in a Master of Science program in Management and Risk at the Peter J. Tobin College of Business at St. John’s University, Manhattan, N.Y.

Jean Francois Haeck is from the London School of Economics in London, England. He is the second student to receive this prestigious Scholarship award.

Class of 2007


Danielle Lewis was awarded the first ever the John Faulds Scholarship while she was enrolled in the MBA Program at Dalhousie University in Halifax. As part of her MBA studies she performed research in credit derivatives – both in pricing Collaterized Debt Options (CDO’s) as well as in credit derivatives signaling.
