Nowell Seaman is manager of Risk Management and Insurance Services at the University of Saskatchewan, where his responsibilities include coordination of risk management, corporate insurance, emergency measures, business continuity planning and the University's enterprise risk management (ERM) program.
Mr. Seaman holds the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) and Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designations, and he recently received the Donald M. Stuart Award, the highest honour for outstanding contribution to the profession of risk management in Canada. He is a member of the board of directors of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) headquartered in New York City, NY. His involvement with RIMS has included chair of the RIMS Canada Council from 2003 to 2005, chair of the Canadian Risk Management Conference in 2002, and a director for the Saskatchewan Chapter of RIMS.
Mr. Seaman chaired the secretariat that resulted in creation of the McGannon Foundation for Advanced Risk Management, a charitable trust that supports post-secondary education and research in risk management in Canada through the provision of scholarships and grants. He currently serves on the McGannon Foundation board of directors. He has been active as an instructor for the Insurance Institute of Canada and speaks at many conferences and seminars. In 1995, he was a member of a team of Canada/US representatives that presented seminars to industry and state regulators in Moscow, Russia on a project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
